Why is the fuse board important?
In regards to consumer units (fuse boards/fuse boxes) our registered electricians perform fusebox repairs, fuse board replacements as well as installations.
Consumer units are an integral part of your electrical installation, and fuseboards now come equipped with RCDs (Residual Current Devices) which provide a higher level of protection. A modem RCD fuse board will trip the fuse in order to protect you if you are using a faulty appliance such as a kettle or refrigerator. An older fuse board cannot perform this function.

What's the process of replacing a consumer unit?
If a replacement consumer unit/fuse board is needed, the procedure begins by completing an EICR (electrical installation report) and checking all the wiring in the home. There may be existing faults that your current fuse board (consumer unit) would not detect. A nail could be driven through a cable, or the neutral could be connected to the ground, or there could be deterioration of the cables. We are able to discuss any issues that need to be rectified at the same time as the consumer unit installation to be scheduled at a later date once the EICR has been performed by one of our registered electricians.
